ORGANIC FERTILIZERS In this section I want to talk about the various types of natural ,organic fertilizers. Manures. For thousands of years man has used the waste from his animals to fertilise his soil and feed his crops.Sometime in the distant past early man must have noticed that plants grew better in areas where his animals had deposited their dung. Until the development of mechanised transport we relied heavily on horses for getting around and as a result there was always a ready supply of horse manure to feed our crops. These days most of our towns have horse riding stables near them and this is a great place to get horse manure. If your'e luckly they will have a pile of well rotted manure that you can collect and put straight onto the soil to feed your crops .If the manure is still fairly fresh (i.e.,you can still see the different components-- straw and manure.) don't put it straight on the garden as it maybe to strong for the plants.Leave it in a heap to rot down or, better still ,mix it in your compost bins where it will rot down with all your other organic matter. Town dwellers may have greater difficulty in obtaining cow ,pig or sheep manure but even manure from pet rabbits or guinea pigs is a useful sorce of nitrogen fertilizer
