With forty year’s experience of growing organic fruit and veg in soil made in my own compost bins I feel as if I have a lot of experience to pass on. You can learn about using worm compost ,cow manure and horse manure .to produce natural tasting organic fruit and veg grown from organic seeds Scientists may argue about the value of organic food but one thing everyone agrees with is that using natural fertilizers and organic pesticides are better for the environment than man made chemicals Organic compost , whether made in the traditional compost bin ,or using the quicker compost tumbler produces healthier plants and healthier soil with a much healthier soil microbiology. As a child I remember how good the fresh vegetables tasted from my fathers allotment. He grew them using compost and chicken manure----he didn’t know he was organic--that’s just the way they did things then, like his father before him. Organic gardens have the added advantage of encouraging a greater variety of wild life.I have far more butterflies, bees, birds and frogs in my garden than many of my neighbours who use chemical sprays and fertilizers. One of the reasons for starting this site is that I have a five year old granddaughter and I want the world I leave her to be a better one for her and all animals and plants. Your organic garden no matter how small (Ill talk later about container growing and patio veg) adds a little bit to that better future and you have great tasting organic veg to enjoy in the present. Over the next few pages I will talk about my experience in growing organic vegetables ,fruit and organic herbs---I may even throw in a few recipes ! When you start to compost your kitchen waste., find sources of horse manure (don’t worry I’ll give you some ideas) you will find that using your compost bin becomes second nature. Your diet will improve and you will think more about what you and your family are eating and how this contributes to your health and the health of the planet. Growing organic fruit and veg can be fun, healthy, good for the planet and all our grandchildren.
